The organization has recently embarked upon a major revision of its official web site and the current version can be found at www.frsc.gov.ng Background - About the 'Road Safety Nigeria' Web SiteAround the world, road traffic injuries are a major public health challenge that requires concerted efforts for effective and sustained prevention. An estimated 1.2 million people are killed in road crashes every year and as many as 50 million suffer injuries. The World Health Organization believes that these figures could increase by more than half over the next 20 years unless there is a firm commitment to road safety and accident prevention, especially in developing countries such as Nigeria. Here in Nigeria, most adults will know of someone who has been killed or injured in a road traffic accident. It is a sad fact that many of these accidents and their consequences will have been avoidable. Our MissionRoad Safety Nigeria aims to "encourage good driving habits and help reduce, and limit the impact of, road traffic accidents". We will do this by:
