Don't Drink and Drive

It's well known that drinking alcohol impairs reaction time and alertness, making accidents more likely.

For example, in the United States of America, over 17,000 people are killed in alcohol-related crashes each year. This equates to around one death every half an hour and accounts for approximately 40% of all road traffic accident fatalities there.

Advice to Drivers

  • Because the physical make-up of everyone is different it is difficult to specify a safe amount of alcohol that can be consumed before driving, so our advice is don't drink and drive.

  •
  • If driving with friends to a function where alcohol will be served, select a 'designated driver' who will not drink and will drive the car on the return journey.  (It's best to agree the 'designated driver' before arriving at the function.)

  • Be aware that alcohol takes time to be metabolised by your body.  This means that alcohol can remain in your bloodstream for several hours after you've been drinking.
