Crash Helmets

Motorcyclists and moped riders, including okada operators, are disproportionately involved in fatal and serious injury crashes compared to drivers of other vehicles.  This is because they are more vulnerable as a motorcycle provides little or no protection in the event of a crash, and the rider will usually be flung into the road or against another vehicle.

One way for riders and passengers to help reduce the injuries resulting from an accident is to wear appropriate protective clothing including a well-fitting crash helmet that meets relevant safety standards.

Advice to Motorcycle and Moped Riders

  • Always wear a crash helmet and make sure your passenger does too.

  • Avoid riding in the 'blind spots' of long vehicles, where it will be difficult for drivers to see you.
